Cat Backs

A cat back system is one the starts immediately after the catalytic convertor and includes the midpipe to the tip.

Not all cat backs are equal. You have material to consider, the noise level (if a 'silencer' is offered this may help), design and modification requirements, and finally piping diameter. There can be other concerns for some.
Material is important. Even if top grade metal, the thickness is important...to light of a guage then you get dents and dings....too heavy you have a lot of weight. In non-salted road areas aluminized steel can last a while....in salted road areas you will want at least full stainless steel.

Noise level is the next thing...even if quiet at idle make sure no resonances occur at cruising speeds. Loudness doesn't equal power necessarily. There are quiet exhausts capable of more power than louder ones. Street legality is a consideration as well, some areas have strict noise ordinances. Sometimes a 'loud' exhaust may include/have as an extra purchase a silencer. This is a restriction placed into the tail tip...you will lose some power, but they will allow you not to be arrested and/or annoy your girlfriend/wife :).

The design is important mostly from fit and 'looks'...it's easy to make more power when you don't consider it 'fitting' the car and clearing normal road issues and stock equipment. Most exhausts that require modification will limit it to removing a tow-hook or trimming some of the bumper. Many don't work with HICAS and/or more than one sway bar out back...some may not be good if the car is lowered at all. Then dual pipes, single pipe, slash cut, resonated tip, slanted muffler, etc matter. Lastly, many are designed for J-spec 240SX's.

Piping diameter is a last major concern. Too big and you have no low end, too small no high end. Many systems are designed for J-spec SR20DET engines and many be too large for KA24DE's.
Some notes regarding the information within. While I have tried to make it as accurate as possible there are bound to be some errors/omissions. Also any dealers/vendors listed within are for price comparisions only...I have no experience with most and I don't want to become a 'biased' source here. I am open to adding more dealers/vendors and perhaps giving special treatment to authorized dealers. Also any images may or may not be representative of the actual 240SX unit.
